House committee approves six-year highway bill

The U.S. House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure approved a $325 billion infrastructure bill Oct. 22.

The bill would give $261 billion to highway construction and repair, $55 billion to transit, and $9 billion for safety programs.

The proposal is meant to cover the next six years, but the current version only funds the next three. Figuring out how to cover the full six and reconciling the House bill with a similar infrastructure bill in the Senate are among lawmakers' next steps.
