Doosan's new crawler excavator is EPA-approved for better environmental performance

Doosan Corp. added its 129-net-horsepower DX180LC-5 crawler excavator to the company’s lineup of Tier 4-compliant construction equipment on Sept. 18.

On top of meeting the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Tier 4 standards for cleaner operation, the new excavator features improved performance, operator comfort, fuel economy and job-site durability.

Doosan has added a new selectable feature called Smart Power Control (SPC), which consists of two systems. One is a variable speed control, which reduces engine revolutions during low workload requirements, such as during the swing portion of a dig cycle. This reduces the total energy required to perform a task and improves fuel efficiency by up to 3 to 7 percent.

The second SPC feature is pump torque control, which efficiently matches hydraulic pump torque and engine response to the task at hand, preventing engine overload and excess fuel consumption, also improving efficiency.

The features work together to improve machine efficiency while maintaining productivity and reducing fuel consumption.

The DX180LC-5’s engine control unit automatically manages SPC when it is engaged. Each of the four power modes will function with SPC engaged or disengaged, however, SPC can be active only in the digging work mode.

The new excavator also features an improved 7-inch LCD screen that allows operators to continue monitoring the excavator parameters while viewing the rearview or side-view camera image. The machine has improved anti-skid plates, emergency engine stop, better serviceability, an upgraded alternator and all-new front window design.
