Gilbane Building Company's job-site safety programs recently were honored with the Associated Builders and Contractors' (ABC) Diamond Award as part of ABC'sSafety Training and Evaluation Process (STEP) program.

The Diamond Award is the highest honor that ABC gives to companies.

The STEP program was first founded in 1989 under the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety (EH&S) Committee -- created and written for contractors, by contractors. All of the candidates for the award are required to meet strict safety requirements.

"We are honored to again receive this recognition from the Associated Builders and Contractors,” Mike McKelvy, Gilbane's president, said. “Nurturing an environment that promotes and maintains safe and productive outcomes for our employees, craft workers, clients and teammates has been a core value for Gilbane for over 142 years. By relentlessly applying best practices of diligent pre-planning, effective training, visible leadership and employee engagement outlined in the ABC's STEP application, we strive to ensure that every one of the 30,000 men and women that work on our projects returns home safely each day."

Gilbane offers its customers a variety of facilities- and construction-related services, including integrated consulting and pre-construction planning capabilities.
