Montabert boasts a storied history
The company was created in 1921, manufacturing pneumatic equipment at its facility in Lyon, France. Montabert manufactured this equipment for other companies in the beginning but, in 1949, the company added an internal design division to develop products under its own name – charting a course that allowed the brand to become the industry juggernaut that it is today. In fact, Montabert is the name behind many of the industry's most significant innovations.
“Montabert has a rich history in the rock-drilling and rock-breaking technology,” Stephane Giroudon, general manager for Montabert North America, said. “We actually invented the first hydraulic rock-breaker design in the mid-'60s.”
The company's list of industry “firsts” is as long as it is impressive. Montabert developed the first parallel-boom assembly for underground drilling in 1963 and introduced the first hydraulics-powered hand-held jack hammer just two years later. In 1969, it pioneered both the first hydraulic hammer attachment for an excavator and the first hydraulic out-of-the-hole drifter. Today, Montabert , based in Saint-Priest (Lyon), France, and in the Atlanta area. designs, manufactures and distributes light, medium and heavy rock breakers; breaker tools; hydraulic drifters; and drilling attachments to companies around the world.
"We offer a premium product in the marketplace," Giroudon said. "There are a variety of designs and manufacturers, and our brand is leading at the forefront of the technology."
Offering such high-quality, advanced products makes the sales and distribution side of the business quite enjoyable for Giroudon, who is proud of Montabert's products, as well as the company's history and commitment to manufacturing quality.
"Our product is great," he said. "We have a strong engineering and manufacturing history, and a high-end product, so it's always kind of fun to go out and sell a premium product and offer solutions to our customers. We have a great story, with our background coming from product design and manufacturing, and lots of unique features and benefits that we explain to educate our customers."
There are a lot of options out there for these types of products -- they are made around the world today -- and you can find all kinds of grades and quality of products," he said. "Being able to present our exceptional products to the marketplace -- that's a great, great thing."
Montabert hopes to offer its products to even more North American companies in the future. While it is well-represented, the company would like to partner with additional dealers in the western U.S. soon.
"We are very well represented on the North American East Coast, Midwest and in the South, but we are trying to increase our presence in the West," Giroudon said. "We are always looking for new dealers."
