Terramac delivers RT9 crawler carrier to Ariz. copper mine

A copper mining operation in Pima County, Arizona recently obtained a Terramac RT9 crawler carrier for dust suppression at its copper mine tailings pond.

Based in Elburn, Illinois, Terramac sent Product Specialist Matthew Herzig to Arizona to perform an overview of the unit for mine operators, who had not previously used the heavy equipment at the site. He went over all of the RT9’s features, instructed the mine’s operators on how to use the dust suppression attachment, and discussed safety tips in addition to best practices for service and maintenance.

Tailings ponds have a unique consistency and a toxic chemical balance that requires specific equipment to safely maintain the tailings in accordance with strict federal mining laws. With rubber tracks that disperse the unit's weight so the overall ground pressure is 5.1 psi, the Terramac RT9 dust suppression unit is able to maneuver through the tailings easily.

It also can accommodate a 1,600-gallon water tank, and has 60-foot spray boom that distributes a continuous flow of water and magnesium chloride solution to efficiently keep the tailings' dust particles at bay.
