Western Star 5700 XE tractor rolled out by C.R. England

C.R. England, Inc. became the first American carrier to roll out a 2016 Western Star 5700 XE tractor this month.

Officials with the Salt Lake City, Utah-based transportation company said nearly 200 new units will be put into service over the next several months. Solo and team drivers, as well as million miler drivers will be the first to receive the Western Star vehicles. Tenured independent contractors with lease availability also will be offered the new units.

"The adaptive cruise is so innovative and makes it easier to focus on being safe," Zach England, chief operating officer for C.R. England, said. "We are pleased with this new addition to our fleet and expect it to be quite popular with our drivers."

Company officials said what makes these tractors unique are such features as woodgrain and leather interiors, and a Detroit powertrain. Additionally, the tractors have a DD15 with the direct drive DT12 automated shift transmission. The trucks also come with safety features such as forward collision mitigation, adaptive cruise and hill-start technologies.

The Western Star 5700 XE has been designed to increase efficiency and to reduce the total cost of ownership, Brandon Harrison, co-chief operating officer for C.R. England, said.

"Over the course of the last 12 months, we've been working with our valued partners at Warner Truck Center and Western Star Corporate to procure these state-of-the art tractors," Harrison said. "We're thrilled to be in a position to offer our professional driver force some of the best and safest equipment on the market."
