Komatsu America Corp. unveils new WA470-8 wheel loader

Komatsu America Corp. introduced its new wheel loader this week that combines a lockup torque converter that activates in second, third and fourth gears, and provides optimal engine torque for improved acceleration, hill climbing and fuel savings.

The WA470-8 wheel loader features a 272-horsepower Komatsu, a variable geometry turbo-charged and after-cooled Tier 4 Final certified engine that uses up to 6 percent less fuel than its interim predecessor.

Komatsu America Product Manager Rob McMahon said the new product combines stability, break-out power and tractive effort.

“For moving gravel, transporting pipe, charging hoppers or working with landscape materials or aggregates, the WA470-8 is the right machine for the work site,” McMahon said, adding that attachments specifically adapted for logging and waste-handling extend the machine’s versatility.

Komatsu designed the machine’s diesel particulate filter and other after-treatment components in conjunction with the engine for efficiency and long life. A selective catalyst-reduction assembly further reduces nitrous-oxide emissions using diesel exhaust fluid. The engine uses an advanced electronic control system to manage air-flow rate, fuel injection, combustion parameters and after-treatment functions to optimize performance, reduce emissions and provide advanced diagnostic capability.
